After attending the lecture you
must write a brief (one paragraph) typewritten summary of the lecture,
including one significant quote by the speaker and why that quote was
significant to you.
It is crazy because in class we were just talking about clean and unclean and Dr. Garland used the story of the unclean woman touching Jesus' cloak. Dr. Garland points out that Jesus causes a commotion when He heals the woman. He wants the audience to see her faith and the fear she had to overcome. Dr. Garland also uses the example of Jirus' daughter dying. Jesus tells him to continue to have faith even in the face of death. Dr. Garland wanted to prove that Jesus teaches the same values in widely different scenarios stating, "Mark wants us to hear the intertwined stories - polar opposite people but very similar faiths." Dr. Garland shares the differences in the stories and ties it together with the simple phrase, "In God's kingdom, the nobodies become somebodies." I loved this quote because he is saying that everyone is equal in the sight of the Lord. No matter their experience or situation, Jesus expects them to have faith. My faith can be just as great as a homeless person or a millionaire's.
